RARE AND COLLECTIBLE | AUSTRALIANA

1886, First edition. In 4 volumes, 3 octavo and 1 Folio. A near fine set of this important work. The first 3 volumes are in unmarked burgundy cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine. The folio 4th volume in in rubbed burgundy boards with gilt lettering on the top boards and with a tape repair to the spine. Apart from the expected light tanning of the edges the contents are in remarkably fine condition and the original map is in its pocket in the rear of volume 4. This set comes with incredible provenance having being originally owned by Sir John Forrest. The 4th volume has a presentation plate to him on the front pastedown and his personal bookplate is on the pastedown of the other 3 volumes. The front free endpapers of the first 3 volumes also have the bookplates of Sir Paul Hasluck the former Governor General. Also in the first 3 volumes are the bookplates of well known antiquarian dealer Dr. Ian McGill and the bookplates of eminent collector Graham Levey. A superb item in both condition and provenance. Scans available if required.
