Matthew Harrison is a young English doctor who comes to Australia seeking a fresh start after a tragedy in the UK. He chooses the remote north-west of Western Australia, around the Pilbara, although he knows little about the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The novel recounts his trip to Australian working his way as a ship's doctor, and his adventures as a 'Flying Doctor', battling the elements and coming to grips with the strange customs of his new countrymen. Geoffrey Morlet is an ophthalmologist who has recently turned to writing. His first novel, The Journey, was published in the UK in 2002 and published in Australia by Lythrum Press in 2004.
